“It’s up to you”. That’s how the powerful film, the Future of Food ends. One powerful statement about the right to know what’s in our food.

With the rate of  allergies, autism, ADHD and asthma on the rise, earning these conditions the nickname “the 4 As”, and with heart attacks, cancer and immune diseases continuing to escalate, many Americans are growing more and more weary of what we’re eating, and how our food supply is affecting our health. Inspired Eats is about finding healthy alternatives to food-based allergens, however, along the way I’ve discovered a growing community of concerned citizens who are fighting a long and difficult battle of ensuring Americans are aware of what we’re eating.

The Future Of Food offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. So the next time you have an hour and a half to spare, I encourage you to watch The Future of Food. It’s a powerful story of how we got to this place of fighting the production of GM foods, and why labeling is so important.

In 2004, the USDA required the labeling of food allegens on our foods, but not GMO’s.  In the words of Robin O’brien, “I want the right to know what I’m feeding my families.” We have the right to know what’s in our food, and we absolutely have the right to know what we’re feeding our families. Parents would stop at nothing to protect their children, yet without proper labeling of GE foods, we cannot be aware of what to protect our children from. Without labels on Genetically engineered/modified  food, consumers simply can’t exercise their rights. The choices we make at the supermarket determine the future of food – and our livelihoods.

Take a few minites to watch this video from Just Label It. It will give you an idea of why labels are so important for our overall health, and the health and wellness of our future generations. Whether you’re just starting to explore the world of GM foods and what they mean for us, or you’re knee-deep in the trenches, this serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of the battle. And when you’re done watching, please take a moment to sign their petition and help Just Label It get to 1,000,000 signatures. It’s a small effort towards a large movement to help protect and save our citizens from the harmful effects of GM foods.

Organic farming is a real alternative to the farming crisis, and we need to stand up to the USDA and tell them we won’t sit still while we slowly become more and more sick. As a nation, we are the only country that uses genetically modified foods. THE ONLY COUNTRY. And it wasn’t a choice made by the people, for the poeple. It was a choice made by big Agra and the “Pharming” industry to boost sales, fatten profits and increase production. And it’s slowly killing our citizens.

Knowledge as power.

Genetically engineered fish, livestock, poultry, insects, trees…. where does it end? If we release only 60 GM salmon into the wild, its estimated that within 40 generations, the entire wild salmon population will be extinct. EXTINCT.

Tell the FDA: Label My Food

A legal petition (Docket # FDA-2011-P-0723-0001/CP) has been filed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) calling on the FDA to label genetically engineered (GE) foods.

Become a part of this growing movement and tell the FDA that you believe we have a Right to Know what’s in our food. Click here and post your comment on this petition today and make sure your voice is heard! Here is a copy of the petition comments you will be submitting to help get to 1,000,000 signatures:

Dear Commissioner Hamburg,

I am writing to urge the FDA to require the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. I have a right to know about the food I eat and what I feed my family.

In America, we pride ourselves on having choices and making informed decisions. Under current FDA regulations, we don’t have that choice when it comes to GE ingredients in the foods we purchase and feed our families. Labeling is essential for me to choose whether or not I want to consume or feed my family genetically engineered foods.

Genetically engineered foods are required to be labeled in the 15 European Union nations, Russia, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries around the world. As an American, I firmly believe I should also have the right to know if my foods have been genetically engineered.

A recent poll released by ABC News found that 93 percent of the American public wants the federal government to require mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods. As ABC News stated, “Such near-unanimity in public opinion is rare.”

I hope you will listen to me and the other 93 percent of the American public who want mandatory labeling. Please show your support for the interests of the American people by labeling genetically engineered foods.

Remember – we can each do something small that together makes a BIG difference! So take a moment, sign the petition, and feel good about the part you’re playing towards a healthier future!
