Walnut Allergy Alert
January 4, 2013
Gilster-Mary Lee of Chester, Illinois is voluntarily recalling one lot of Chocolate Chunk Brownie Mix because it contains cartons containing undeclared walnuts. Wrong packaging/cartons were used that do not declare walnuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The only brand involved is Food Club Chocolate Chunk Brownie Mix packaged in cases of 12/14.25oz. Cartons have a Best By date of NOV 28 13 D02 (UPC# 36800-13486). This Best By date code is located on the corrugated case AND on the top flap of the carton. Consumers should return the product to the store or discard it.
The product was distributed to Abingdon, VA. Warehouse on December 5, 2012.
Gilster-Mary Lee became aware of the mis-packaging during an internal review. Investigation indicated that during this production run walnut brownie cartons were inadvertently exchanged with plain Chocolate Chunk Brownie cartons. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

Tree Nut Allergy Alert – December 5, 2012
Price Chopper Supermarkets is issuing a voluntary recall on certain Cinnamon Nut Coffee Cakes purchased only at the Mountain Road store in Worcester, MA, because they were incorrectly labeled as Pumpkin Coffee Cakes and therefore did not list tree nuts as an ingredient. The cakes were purchased at the Mountain Road store only (located at 72 Pullman Street in Worcester), were purchased after October 11, 2012 and would have an expiration date between October 17 and October 25.
Other than this labeling issue, the product is safe for consumption for those not allergic to tree nuts.
In addition to alerting the media, Price Chopper has initiated its Smart Reply notification program, which uses purchase data and consumer phone numbers on file in connection with the company’s AdvantEdge (loyalty) card to alert those households that may have purchased the product in question.

Peanut Allergy Alert – November 6, 2012
The Kroger Co. said today it is recalling select containers of sold at the company’s Dillons, King Soopers, City Market, Fry’s Food and Smith’s Food & Drug operating divisions in 11 states because it may contain pecans not listed on the label.
Customers should return the product to stores for a full refund or replacement.
People who are allergic to pecans could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product. For consumers who are not allergic to pecans, there is no safety issue with the product.
Dillons, Gerbes, Bakers, Fry’s, King Soopers, City Market and Smith’s stores in the following states are included in this recall: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
Not included in this recall are Kroger, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer and QFC stores.

Schoep’s Ice Cream Company of Madison, Wisconsin is alerting customers that because of a packaging error, Kays Classic Vanilla Bean Ice Cream contains an undeclared allergen. The code is located on the lower left corner of the back of the package, below the Nutrition Facts and Ingredient Declaration Panel. Consumers should return the product to the store for a full refund or discard it.
The product was distributed between July 24, 2012 and October 16, 2012 to retail stores located in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Hannaford Supermarkets of Scarborough, Maine, is alerting customers that, because of a label printing error, Red Velvet Cake Truffle and Triple Chocolate Cake Truffle sold at its stores in the bakery department, may have contained undeclared allergens. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg, milk, peanuts, wheat, soy and tree nuts should not consume these products.
The affected product, which has been removed from store shelves, is Red Velvet Cake Truffle with UPC #20335800000, and Triple Chocolate Cake Truffle with UPC # 20335700000. The product was distributed in New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont.

Milk, Shellfish, Tree Nut Allergy Alert

Maine Natural Health is announcing a recall of Whey Protein Concentrates as the labels fail to declare the allergens: milk, shellfish, and coconut. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, shellfish, or tree nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The products can be identified by the following names:
- Pure Whey in Maine Natural Health and Stronger Faster Healthier brands contains the allergen milk
- Fortified and Endurance Daily in Stronger Faster Healthier contains the allergen milk.
- Recovery (also labeled as Post Workout) and Rejuvenate in Maine Natural Health and Stronger Faster Healthier contains the allergens milk and glucosamine derived from crab shells.
- Daily Balance, Endurance Daily, Endurance In Race, and Hunger and Weight in Stronger Faster Healthier contains the allergens milk and coconut fat that is derived from coconuts.
Stronger Faster Healthier and Maine Natural Health products are sold in the flavors of chocolate, natural, vanilla, lime, coconut and pina colada and in the two lb, 10 oz and 30 gram sizes. Products were sold since July 14, 2010 through August 31, 2012.
These products are distributed nationwide both directly to consumer via the internet and through retailers.
As most customers know whey protein is derived from milk. Maine Natural Health shipped the whey protein products beginning July 14, 2010 without stating: whey is derived from ‘milk’ on their labels through a company oversight. This product recall notice has been initiated because these products contain milk ingredients but do not list on the labels that the ingredients are derived from milk. In addition, products sold under the name Recovery (also labeled as Post Workout) and Rejuvenate contained glucosamine derived from crab shells. Products sold under the name of Daily Balance, Endurance Daily, Endurance In Race, and Hunger and Weight are made from coconut fat that is derived from coconuts.

Sam’s Club Chunky Cinnamon Streusel was distributed from July 23, 2012 to September 7, 2012 in Sam’s Club distribution centers in California, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Somersault Snack Co., LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is voluntarily recalling a limited number of packages of Somersaults Pacific Sea Salt 6oz. that were inadvertently mispackaged —limited quantities of Somersaults Santa Fe Salsa flavored product were inadvertently commingled with Somersaults Pacific Sea Salt flavored product in packages labeled as Somersaults Pacific Sea Salt 6oz. The inadvertent commingling of these two products introduced another allergen (milk) to the Somersaults Pacific Sea Salt 6oz. packages, and that allergen (milk) is not listed on the packaging as either an ingredient or an allergen.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume the affected product. The product was distributed to retail stores nationwide. No allergic reactions have been reported.
Somersault Snack Co. has taken the precautionary measure of notifying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is voluntarily recalling approximately 418 cases of the product shown.
Somersault Snack Co. will work with retail customers to ensure that the recalled products are removed from store shelves. Cucina Fresca Gourmet Foods, a leading producer of natural gourmet foods for retail and foodservice, recently conducted an audit of its packaged goods products and found an error on the labels of 58 cases of shelf-stable 24-ounce Cucina Fresca Smoked Tomato Sauce in glass jars, resulting in a need to recall the mislabeled packages from select Pacific Northwest Whole Foods and Quality Food Center locations in Oregon and Washington states (lot# 11002A and 11002B). The Cucina Fresca Smoked Tomato labeled jars actually contains Cucina Fresca Tomato Vodka Sauce, which contains milk as an ingredient. Milk is not listed on the Cucina Fresca Smoked Tomato label. This may pose a serious, life-threatening risk to buyers unaware of its inclusion, who may have an allergy or sensitivity to milk.
The error has not been linked to any illnesses at this time, and no other Cucina Fresca packaged good products or refrigerated sauces are affected. In accordance with FDA regulations to identify known allergens, Cucina Fresca has reported the error to the FDA to issue a recall and will offer all consumers who purchased the mislabeled sauce replacement product. The product was distributed to retail locations the end of June 2012.
With the recall, Cucina Fresca will be pulling all mislabeled products off shelves at Whole Foods and Quality Food Center stores, and replacing them with correctly labeled product. Consumers who have purchased Cucina Fresca Smoked Tomato (lot 11002A or 11002B noted at the bottom of the jar) UPC code 8-84337-00522-4 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Soy Allergy AlertAugust 20, 2012BI-LO announced an immediate voluntary recall on Southern Home® Cranberry Nut Antioxidant Blend Trail Mix sold in the 16 oz. bag with a universal bar code (UPC) of 0788003039 and a best-by date of March 12, 2013. The product is being recalled in the states of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee due to a potential, undeclared presence of soy lecithin, which is a processed soy product. The processing reduces the content of allergenic proteins; however, persons with a severe soy allergy may still have serious reactions to the reduced protein found in the soy lecithin.The recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution for customer safety, though the company has received no reports of illness associated with product consumption. The issue was reported to BI-LO by a customer. |

Milk, Soy, and Wheat Allergy Alert July 30, 2012
Wimberger’s Old World Bakery & Delicatessen, Colorado Springs, CO is conducting a voluntary recall of all Kaiser Rolls, Seeded Rolls, Brat Buns, French Bread, Pretzel Rolls, Pretzels, Pizza Dough, Hoagie Rolls and French Baguettes because they contain undeclared Milk, Soy and Wheat. People who have anallergy or severe sensitivity to Milk, Soy or Wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The baked products were distributed to grocery stores, delicatessens and restaurants located in Colorado and Kansas.
Although all of the affected products are not Kaiser rolls, each is packed in semi-transparent plastic bags identified “fresh from the OVEN SOUR DOUGH 12 KAISER ROLLS, NET WT 20 OZ, WIMBERGER’S OLD WORLD BAKERY 2321 Bott Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80904”. The labeling is yellow, white, and brown, with black print writing bearing the UPC 7960540012. These items are also distributed in 10 oz. bags bearing the UPC 7960540012.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that products containing undeclared amounts of Milk, Soy and Wheat were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of the allergens. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a labeling transcription omission from one of the sub-ingredient’s (margarine) used in the production of the recalled products.
Customers who have purchased any of the affected products which do not contain a “Contains Milk, Soy and Wheat” sticker may return them to the place of purchase or discard them immediately. Milk Allergy Alert July 25, 2012
Mount Franklin Foods, LLC is voluntarily recalling one lot of Sunrise Indian Corn because the candy contains undeclared milk and sulfites. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk can run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
The recall affects Sunrise Indian Corn Candy which is packaged in 16 oz clear plastic tubs with Best By date of MAR 26 2013 and with Lot # 2321811. The Best By date and Lot Number are printed on the bottom label of the tub. This lot had UPC number 0-76500-16651-5. No other lots or products are affected.
The products were distributed in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Florida, only through Albertson’s LLC retail stores between the dates of 7/3/2012 and 7/5/2012.
There have been no reports of injuries or illnesses reported to date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Chocolate flavor used in the affected lot contained nonfat dry milk and sulfites, which was not declared on the label.

Egg Allergy Alert July 9, 2012
Fruiti Pops, Inc. is recalling 178 dozen Fruiti Pops 4 ounce Classic Coconut frozen dessert bars because they may contain egg yolk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious and life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
Fruiti Pops Classic Coconut frozen dessert bars were distributed in Southern California and are sold by push cart vendors and ice cream trucks. These products were distributed between June 25, 2012 and June 28, 2012. The product comes in clear polypropylene packaging and is not labeled with lot numbers nor expiration dates. The UPC of the recalled product is 763734 000011 and is located on the back of the wrapper.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
No other flavors of Fruiti Pops fruit bars nor any other products produced by Fruiti Pops, Inc. are affected by this recall.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered this product was produced with egg yolk and did not reveal the ingredient egg yolk on the packaging.
